Substances Support Scotland: Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) - 2 day course
Created: 20/07/2026PLEASE NOTE: This course costs £125 per person for both days of training. The training takes place on Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 August 2026.
This is a Public Health Scotland accredited, two-day course that equips participants with the skills and confidence to recognise and respond to someone at risk of suicide in a safe, supportive and practical way.
Suicide can affect anyone and knowing how to respond when someone may be at risk is a vital skill in both personal and professional contexts. Attendance on both days is required to gain an official Public Health Scotland certificate.
Participants will:
The course is highly interactive and practice-focused, using facilitated discussion, real-life scenarios, and structured simulations to build confidence in applying skills.
Emphasis is placed on compassion, direct communication, and supporting people with dignity and respect, even in high-pressure situations.
Refreshments, tea, coffee and biscuits are provided.
Accreditation
The course is accredited by Public Health Scotland and delivered on behalf of NHS Fife.
Participants receive a Public Health Scotland certificate on successful completion.

The training facilities are located on the ground floor.
Due to the nature of the content, this course may be emotionally challenging. It may not be suitable for individuals who have been recently bereaved by suicide or are currently experience significant distress.
