Congratulations to two outstanding volunteers from Fife’s third sector who have been shortlisted in this year’s prestigious Scottish Charity Awards!

Ian Stirton from Greener Kirkcaldy has been nominated for Trustee of the Year in recognition of his remarkable leadership and long-standing commitment to the organisation.

As Treasurer for the past 13 years, Ian has helped guide Greener Kirkcaldy through an incredible period of growth and development, bringing calm advice, strategic thinking, and good humour along the way. When he first joined, the charity had limited funding, no financial reserves, and only a small staff team. Through responsible financial planning and a forward-thinking approach, Ian played a key role in helping the organisation grow sustainably to meet the needs of the local community.

Today, Greener Kirkcaldy employs 43 permanent staff, supports 120 volunteers, and operates with an annual budget of £2.4 million. Ian was instrumental in securing multi-year funding, purchasing a community building, and ensuring essential services continued throughout the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Jenny Black from Fife Pride has been nominated for Volunteer of the Year.

Jenny has been a dedicated volunteer and ally to the LGBTQIA+ community since joining Fife Pride in 2019. Now serving as Accessibility Coordinator, she has used her lived experience of hidden disability to champion meaningful and lasting improvements in accessibility and inclusion.

She has played a leading role in the Pride Without Barriers initiative, helping secure accessible facilities including an Accessoloo toilet and sensory resources for neurodivergent attendees. Jenny’s compassion, resilience, and determination have helped ensure accessibility remains at the heart of Fife Pride, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where more people can participate safely and confidently.

You can read the full list of nominations here.

The Scottish Charity Awards will take place on 11 June at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Glasgow.
