Integrated Regional Employability and Skills (IRES) Programme 2027 Update
Created: 18/04/2026The Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal hosts and supports the Integrated Regional Employability and Skills (IRES) Programme, and they are pleased to share the launch of the new IRES website, bringing together the programme's vision, priorities and highlighting the next phase of delivery for the region’s employability and skills system.
Also recently published is the IRES 2027+ proposal, an ambitious, evidence-led plan co-produced with over 180 partners in skills development across the region. The next phase of IRES will build on this success to strengthen pathways into higher-skilled, better-paid work.
Together, this will create a more joined-up, responsive and future-ready skills system, supporting people to progress, employers to grow, and the regional economy to thrive. Designed to complement, not duplicate, existing provision, IRES 2027+ will strengthen and embed these pathways, particularly supporting those experiencing in work poverty to progress into higher-skilled, better-paid employment.
The IRES 2027+ Pledge was formally launched by the Joint Committee on 06 March, and partners across the region are now invited to join them in supporting this shared ambition by signing the pledge.
