*FULLY BOOKED 1 day Course: An Introduction to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Created: 09/04/2026Course overview
All professionals working with children and young people who have experienced trauma frequently support individuals who feel overwhelmed by difficult thoughts and emotions. In an understandable attempt to cope, many people find themselves struggling to control, suppress, or avoid distressing internal experiences. Over time, this struggle can intensify suffering, leading to discouragement, hopelessness, and a sense of being stuck.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) offers a compassionate, evidence-based alternative. As a third-wave psychological approach, ACT recognises emotional distress as a meaningful part of the human experience rather than something to be eliminated. ACT supports people to develop a different relationship with their thoughts and emotions, helping them step out of the internal “tug-of-war” and move towards what truly matters to them, even in the presence of pain or adversity.
Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for all professionals who work directly with children and young people experiencing emotional distress, including those affected by trauma. Participants may include professionals from health and mental health services, social work and social care, education, housing and third sector organisations, and justice, community, or family support services.
