National Telecare Campaign: Are Your Service Users Ready?
Created: 09/06/2025BT have teamed up with VMO2 and the UK Government to deliver a once-in-a-generation change to the UK’s landline infrastructure.
By January 2027, the analogue technology that has connected homes and businesses throughout the country for decades will be shut down. The network is becoming more fragile, less reliable, and harder to maintain. As a result, communications' providers are upgrading this technology to modern digital services.
This transition will be seamless for most users, but vulnerable individuals who rely on Telecare alarms will require special attention to help make sure alarms keeping working through the switch over.
Telecare is a type of tech-enabled care equipment that supports people's safety and independence in their homes, often for those with disabilities or older individuals. It works by using sensors and technology to detect potential risks, such as falls, smoke, or gas leaks, and then automatically alerts a monitoring centre or designated contact.
What you need to do
The campaign has a really clear call to action for Telecare users across the UK. Simply put, they need all Telecare users to contact their landline provider as soon as possible, to let them know they use a Telecare device.
By landline providers having this information, they’re collectively able to ensure uninterrupted access to the Telecare service they rely on, throughout their upgrade to a digital landline.
They’ll also be in contact with all BT customers who they already know have Telecare to reassure them that their details are already recorded.
