    Take a Break provides cash grants to carers of disabled children and young people, aged 0 to 20, who have complex additional support needs. The grant can be used to contribute towards things like day trips, a short break away, an additional carer, travel costs, clubs and activities.

    The scheme aims to improve unpaid carer’s quality of life, health and wellbeing by supporting them in accessing a break from the day-to-day routine of caring. It is funded by the Scottish Government and administered by Family Fund charity.

    Who can apply 

    You can apply for a Take a Break grant if you:

    • Have lived in Scotland for six months
    • Are a UK resident
    • Care for a disabled child or young person with complex additional support needs aged 0 to 20 years, who lives at home

    Please note you will not be eligible to apply if the child or young person you care for is looked after by the local authority, or lives away from your home (e.g. in foster care).

    How to apply

    Apply via the Take A Break website.

    The closing date for applications is 5.00pm on Monday 24 June 2024. 

    All applicants will hear from Take A Break by e-mail or letter with an award decision by Friday 12 July 2024. Please remember to check your junk mail regularly.
