  • The Wolfson Foundation - Funding for Places

    Created: 16/05/2024
    News/Events Category: Funding and Finance

The Foundation's main grants programme provides support for places. These grants are for capital initiatives, i.e. buildings (new build or refurbishment) and equipment.

They fund a broad range of organisations working across the fields of education, science and medicine, health and disability, places of worship, heritage, and arts and humanities. Each category has its own specific funding criteria, more detail on which can be found on the Foundation's website.

    Fund award sizes

    Minimum: £15,000

    Annually awarded: £32,000,000

Notes on award amounts: They prefer that you do not request a specific amount. In a Stage 1 application, and simply want to know the total cost of your project and the amount you still need to raise towards it. Grant sizes vary between different categories.

    Who can apply

Registered charities. Some categories of funding also allow Local Authorities, schools and universities to apply.

    How to apply

Online via the Foundation's website. Please see the How to apply section under each specific category on the Funding for Places page. Once you’ve checked that your project is eligible, you can submit a Stage 1 application via the online form.

It usually takes around five months between submitting a Stage 1 application and hearing the outcome of a Stage 2 application. If eligible, you will be invited to submit a Stage 2 application, normally around one month after the deadline.

The closing date for applications is Monday 01 July 2024.
