  • Eat Well Age Well - Raising the Issue of Malnutrition training sessions

    Created: 14/05/2024
News/Events Category: Health and Social Care

Eat Well Age Well is a national project from Scottish Charity Food Train that works to tackle the issue of malnutrition in older people, specifically those at risk of becoming under weight and under-nourished. Malnutrition affects at least 10% of older people and emerging evidence suggests 16% of older people may be at risk of malnutrition in Scotland.

Eat Well Age Well offers free virtual ‘Raising the Issue of Malnutrition’ training sessions, hosted on MS Teams, which aim to increase attendees' knowledge and confidence around identifying and supporting older people at home in the community who are at risk or are suffering from malnutrition. The sessions are aimed at those who work with/care for older adults living in their own homes such as volunteers, health and social care staff, local authority staff or anyone working in the third sector.

    Sessions incorporate information about:

    • Common signs and symptoms of malnutrition
    • Guidance around supporting individuals using Food First advice
    • Utilising simple tools such as armbands and the Patient Association Nutrition Checklist to identify at risk individuals
    • Gaining awareness of promoting good nutrition and hydration in older adults

The sessions take place throughout the year on the following dates:

    • Thursday 02 May 2024, 9:30-12:30
    • Thursday 06 June 2024, 9:30-12:30
    • Tuesday 10 September 2024, 9:30- 12:30
    • Thursday 24 October 2024, 9:30- 12:30
    • Tuesday 19 November 2024, 9:30- 12:30
