    Created: 03/04/2024
    News/Events Category: Children and Families

NSPCC Learning has published a new statistics briefing about child neglect. The briefing looks at data and statistics about child neglect in the UK to help professionals make evidence-based decisions, covering the scale of the issue and what data tells us about children who have been neglected.

Key findings from the report include:

    • Research with 2,285 young people aged 11-17 about their experiences of neglect suggests around 1 in 10 children in the UK have been neglected
    • Neglect is the most common form of abuse for children, and the most commonly mentioned form of abuse by adults contacting the NSPCC helpline
    • Concerns around neglect have been identified for around half of children who are the subject of a child protection plan or on a child protection register in the UK
    • The number of police recorded child cruelty offences is increasing
