  • Deaf Action - Lipreading Classes

    Created: 15/01/2024
News/Events Category: Health and Social Care

    Venue: Pathhead Church Halls, Kirkcaldy
Dates: Every Friday from 19 January 2024 onwards
    Time: 10.00-12.00

Do you have to ask people to repeat what they say? Have to turn the volume up on your TV? Find it difficult to follow speech in groups or noisy situations? Then lipreading classes could help.

Attending lipreading classes can help adults of all ages, with any degree of hearing loss, to communicate better in everyday life. Classes can help boost your confidence and are a great way to do something positive and practical about your hearing loss. Classes are informal, friendly and supportive, taught by a qualified lipreading tutor who will encourage you to relax and have a laugh.

    The classes include:

    • Meeting others with hearing loss and sharing useful tips and advice
    • A different theme for each class so you can improve your general knowledge too
    • Practical lipreading activities including finding out about, and comparing, the different shapes sounds make on the lips
    • Games and quizzes to help you develop your skills
    • Information on a range of topics such as the ear and how it works, communication tactics and coping strategies
    • Information about the services, specialist equipment and support available to help you manage your hearing loss
