Children's Health Scotland - Mental Health & Emotional Wellbeing Intro for Foster Carers
Created: 15/12/2023Compared to other young people, care experienced children and young people (CECYP) are five times more likely to have a mental health disorder, like anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder or behaviour problems. Early experiences of deprivation, family breakdown and childhood trauma, which often precede entry into care, may have impacted on their health and wellbeing. In addition, changes in care placements may affect not only relationships with family and friends, but also wider relationships, such as those in the child or young person's school.
It is also important to acknowledge that CECYP may face inequalities in terms of education, employment, and housing which can negatively impact their health and wellbeing.
Failing to address the mental health and emotional wellbeing needs of CECYP has been linked to a range of poor outcomes that experienced across their lives.
This is a free four hour workshop for kinship carers in Scotland.
AIM
