Fife Gingerbread - Lone Parents, Poverty and Work update
Created: 29/09/2023Fife Gingerbread welcomed their first cohort of lone parent trainees on Monday 25 September.
Eight parents will spend five weeks at Fife Gingerbread undertaking a series of training courses, team building activities, and confidence building sessions before moving on to undertake paid work placements in Fife Council within the Housing Department, Local Offices and Contact Centre.
The placements will last for up to one year and aims to upskill the parents, providing knowledge and experience, with the hope that they can then transition into permanent, sustainable employment.
This employability initiative, part of the Lone Parents, Poverty & Work project, aims to remove barriers to employment for lone parents including childcare and the provision of working hours within the school day, whilst also increasing self-confidence and reducing anxieties associated with a return to the workplace after a period of unemployment.
