Lunchtime Learning - Child Poverty and Parental Employment Support in Fife
Created: 06/02/2023, Updated: 31/03/2023
Tackling child poverty is a key priority for the Scottish Government, Fife local authority and perhaps most importantly the families who are affected by it in their daily lives.
Supporting parents, carers and young people in Fife to gain, sustain and progress in healthy and fair work is a vital part of the picture.
In Fife we fund three employability programmes which support families on this journey: Fife Gingerbread-led partnerships Making it Work for Families and Making it Work for Lone Parents, and BRAG Enterprises-led partnership Square Start.
Participants at this Lunchtime Learning session will:
• Explore the long-term impact of poverty and demographics of disadvantaged families in Fife
• Hear about common challenges that parents and young people face in making the transition into work
• Learn about whole-family, strengths-based approaches in the employment support context
• Gain an overview of existing family-focused employability provision in Fife, including how to refer people to these services
The session will feature opportunities to ask questions and discuss gaps and challenges.
