Fife Council Community Social Work Conference
Created: 24/08/2022Fife Council is hosting a National Social Work conference from 09:00 - 16:30 on 08 November 2022 in Carnegie Conference Centre, Dunfermline.
The aim of the conference is to showcase initiatives in Fife and elsewhere, to critically explore community social work across the UK and see how this can help to reframe ‘Care experience'’ and to challenge our approaches to structural and system-based risk and vulnerability.
Fife is currently "testing" the development of a Community Social Work model which is rooted in prevention and early intervention, with Social Work staff being visible and accessible within communities. The team has moved fully away from the traditional delivery of statutory Social Work currently provided through children and adult services.
The focus of the Community Social Work team in Fife is to work alongside excluded communities, to not only address the wider issues of risk and vulnerability; through the lens of poverty, discrimination, social exclusion, and structural inequality, but to also identify individual and community assets and strengths, acting as catalysts for change to strengthen individual and community agency.
This national conference seeks to showcase Community Social Work nationally and to set the challenge – "Can Community Social Work be a model of practice for the future?". The Council welcomes attendance from managers and practitioners from across the world of Social Work in the UK.
There will be a series of speakers, workshops, and stalls, showcasing Community Social Work approaches, the challenge, learning and outcomes. These will contribute to the national dialogue around the future direction of Social Work. Delegates will be invited to register to attend 2 of the workshops.
There are expenses to be offset, and a conference fee has been set to cover costs. The fee will include lunch and refreshments throughout the day.
