  • FVA Staff Volunteer at Ravenscraig Walled Garden for Volunteers' Week 2026

    Created: 6/2/2026

The FVA team with two Greener Kirkcaldy staff (second and third from left).

To celebrate Volunteers' Week 2026, members of the FVA team swapped their desks for paintbrushes and spent a rewarding day volunteering at Ravenscraig Walled Garden in Kirkcaldy.

Hosted by Greener Kirkcaldy, the day gave us the opportunity to contribute to this fantastic community space while learning more about the work that goes on behind the scenes. The team welcomed us warmly and took the time to tell us about the garden, its volunteers, and the positive impact it has on the local community.

    The team hard at work!

Our mission for the day was to give some of the garden's outdoor furniture a fresh new look. Armed with sandpaper, brushes, and plenty of enthusiasm, we spent the morning sanding down planters and picnic benches before applying a fresh coat of paint. It was wonderful to see the transformation as the furniture was brought back to life.

As well as getting stuck into the practical work, we enjoyed spending time outdoors in the beautiful surroundings of the garden. A picnic lunch gave us the chance to relax, chat, and appreciate the space we were helping to maintain.

We had a brilliant day volunteering together and were delighted to hear that our efforts made a real difference. Following our visit, Geraldine O'Riordan, Senior Development Worker at Greener Kirkcaldy, shared her thanks: "Thank you so much for yesterday – our volunteers can't believe you did all that! They are very impressed and grateful you saved them a job! A great partnership."

    An excellent result!

We're proud to have played a small part in supporting the amazing work of Greener Kirkcaldy and Ravenscraig Walled Garden, and Volunteers' Week was the perfect opportunity to give back to our local community.
