Lunchtime Learning – Become a Carer Positive workplace
Created: 7/23/2024, Updated: 7/23/2024
Carer Positive is a Scottish initiative to encourage employers to create a supportive work environment for carers.
As the population ages and people stay in work for longer, the number of carers will continue to rise. It's estimated around 1 in 8 employees in every organisation will be carers, with 3 in 5 people in Scotland expected to care for someone at some point in their lives.
Carer Positive helps employers put support in place for employees who are carers, helping to reduce their stress at work, improve employees’ physical and mental health, and maintaining their financial stability.
Benefits to employers include:
Attract and retain staff
Reduce stress and sickness absence
Reduce recruitment and training costs
Increase resilience and productivity
Improve service delivery
Cost savings
Improve people management and staff morale
In Fife, there already several Carer Positive accredited employers including Fife Carers Centre, Citizens Advice & Rights Fife, Kingdom Housing Association, and Fife Council.
