  • Winter Heating Benefits - Statistics for Winter 2023/24

    Social Security Scotland have released their figures for Winter Heating payments for Winter 2023/24. Key highlights include: 

    • The figures show that 417,885 payments were made during the winter, compared to 398,115 the previous year. This is a 4% increase year-on-year
    • In total, £23,004,500 was paid out in Winter Heating payments in 2023/24
    • In Fife, 27,230 payments were made, compared to 25,600 on the previous year

    Key figures from the Child Winter Heating report include: 

    • The highest volume of payments went to 12-14 year olds
    • 92% of payments were made to recipients who were responsible for one child, compared to 8% for multiple children
    • 93% of of payments were made to those already in receipt of Child Disability Payment 
    • 30,400 payments were made in 2023/24, totalling £7,165,000 - this is up from 26,830 payments and £5,751,000 paid in 2022/23
    • 22% of recipients received Child Winter Heating for the first time 
    • In Fife, 2,775 payments were made in 2023/24 compared to 1,985 in 2022/23 - this is a 13% increase year-on-year
