About this opportunity: | Adult Basic Education supports individuals and small groups of young people and adult learners to develop their literacy, numeracy and ICT skills. Some learners also work towards an SQA qualification up to SCQF Level 4. This is an opportunity to support adult learners, under the supervision of a Group Tutor, and develop skills and experience in the field of adult literacies. Before volunteering with a group, all volunteers are required to complete a Professional Development Award in Supporting Adult Literacies Learners. Volunteers are well supported to achieve the award and will gain practical experience of delivering adult literacies in a group setting. The PDA will be delivered through blended learning - both online and face to face. Following successful completion of the PDA, volunteers will be allocated to an ABE group to begin their volunteering. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Training provided: | All volunteers will take part in an induction session. Volunteers are required to complete an SQA Professional Development Award in Supporting Adult Literacies Learners (PDA SALL) prior to volunteering with learners. Volunteers have access to Fife Council's elearning. Volunteers are offered further CPD opportunities, eg PDA in Dyslexia. Experience required: | Approachable, friendly and encouraging, with good communication skills, patience and listening skills. The ability to be discreet and be able to maintain confidentiality, to treat learners with sensitivity and respect, and to understand the importance of data protection principles. Ability to use your own initiative, and to know when to ask for help, as well as being open to taking directions. Basic IT skills and a minimum of SCQF level 5 in Literacy and Numeracy (or equivalet) is also needed | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
