Age Scotland's vision is a Scotland which is the best place in the world to grow older. They believe life is for living, and everyone should have the opportunity to live happily and well, for as long as they can.
Having a conversation can have such a positive impact. That's why they offer a Friendship Service which listens, provides friendship, and offers support. Talk can be about all sorts, from current interests, hobbies, personal and professional goals, top tier biscuits, time travel - the list is endless!
The role of a Friendship Caller Volunteer is to provide friendship, companionship and a listening ear to people who are 50 and over and would benefit from a weekly chat. They are looking for volunteers who can volunteer 2-3 hours of their time on the same day each week.
Full training will be provided via Zoom, with an additional training session covering the systems used in the Friendship Caller role. Ongoing support during shifts.
Out of pocket expenses paid?
Yes - The Friendship Caller role can be completed entirely remotely, but should a volunteer wish to travel to Age Scotland offices we have an expenses policy.
Travel expenses between home and the place of volunteering (and return). This must be the actual cost of the expenses incurred or a reimbursement based on the private mileage undertaken - currently a maximum of 45p per mile can be claimed.
If you love having a chat over the phone- Age Scotland would love to hear from you! You should be able to listen and communicate with others, and also have an empathetic and caring nature.
Full training will be provided via Zoom.
The Friendship Caller role is entirely remote! To get involved, all you need is an internet capable device and a strong Wifi connection.
Friendship Callers can also volunteer in the Age Scotland offices in Causewayside, Edinburgh, but this is not essential.
This opportunity is compatible with the Saltire Awards for volunteers aged 12-25.
