    About this opportunity:YMCA Glenrothes are seeking garden volunteers to help with basic garden maintenance (watering, weeding, digging etc) at their supported accommodation sites based in Glenrothes. Residents and members of the community can develop their horticulture skills led by the Garden Worker. Sessions take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 10am - 1pm - attend either or both for however long you can manage.

    A polytunnel has been installed and they are keen to encourage individuals to learn how to grow their own from seed to plate. They are planning and developing wellbeing spaces in their gardens and participants will learn new practical skills. They also support local community groups by improving green spaces in Auchmuty.

    You will be volunteering with a small team of other volunteers and garden staff, with an induction and training about the organisation and your role. You will also have free access to all the courses in the YMCA online e-learning system.

    Takes place:
    Minimum age:16
    Maximum age:100
    Training provided:You will be welcomed by YMCA staff to have an informal chat and tour of the garden and learn more about the role and service. You will be issued with a volunteer application pack and site induction if you wish to proceed. On attendance, the Garden Worker will provide basic garden/task training/instruction. You will also have access to YMCA e-learning portal.
    Out of pocket expenses paid?
    Yes - YMCA are currently looking into funding for volunteer expenses and would like to hear from you whether or not this is an issue for you.

    Experience required:You don't need any specific experience or qualifications. You should be happy to engage with people of all ages, abilities, backgrounds and cultures and enjoy being outside, potentially in a variety of weathers. Gardening experience or knowledge is welcome but not necessary.
