Include Me is a small grass roots charity established in 2008 to match and support local volunteers as Citizen Advocates for adults aged 16-65 living in North East Fife who are vulnerable, isolated and at risk of being excluded from their communities.
Our organisation has a strong commitment to social justice, inclusion and personal choice and believe everyone has a right to participate in decisions made about their lives.
Becoming a volunteer Citizen Advocate gives you a unique opportunity to meet and get to know a person living locally who needs trusted, reliable and independent support and friendship from someone who chooses to spend time with them.
Citizen Advocates help people to voice their views, make informed decisions and become more included in their local community. They also spend time socially with their partner, often doing things together they both enjoy e.g. cycling, walking, dancing or visiting the cinema.
No details were provided about the training made available to volunteers. Please contact us to find out more.
Out of pocket expenses paid?
Yes - No expenses are given to volunteers as the aim is for the Advocate and Partner to become friendly, so that Advocacy is not another paid service for the partner. Jointly you are encouraged to choose free/low-cost activities and to share any expenses equally.
Volunteers don't need to have any professional knowledge or experience. You need to be non-judgemental, a good listener, have compassion & patience, a strong sense of fairness & a belief in social inclusion. You need to be prepared to speak out for your advocacy partner and safeguard their interests. You should also agree that everyone has the right to be respected, valued & have equality of opportunity.
