ME60+ Companion Support project connects people from minority ethnic communities. They encourage speakers of all languages (beginners as well!) to meet and make new connections in Fife. Volunteers will provide multi-lingual companion support to build meaningful connections, reduce social isolation and loneliness and improve health and well-being for all involved. They welcome anyone over the age of 18 years, who want to make a difference to another person's life and value the opportunity of working across diverse cultures, languages, and backgrounds. They seek people who are confident, bilingual, and who are good listeners.
Companions will meet in small groups, befriending others to explore all that Fife has to offer, from cafes, '˜warm spaces', theatres and museums, towns and countryside, trains and buses and walks in parks and along the coast. Learning about the history and culture of Fife whilst sharing their own cultural background and language with others.
Volunteer Companions will be offered 3 training sessions, which includes induction to the organisation and project. Training will cover aspects of confidentiality, health & safety including promoting mental health and well-being. Additional specific training will be offered in the field of Fire & Home Safety, Dementia Friends etc. Other specific trainings, requested by volunteers will be considered. There will be ongoing support for volunteers with a named person and regular meet ups with other volunteers.
