About this opportunity:Do you want to volunteer with young people in your area? Fife Young Carers (FYC) are recruiting volunteer befrienders to support young carers to access activities in their community. Young carers are children and young people who in some way look after or support someone in their family who has an illness, a disability, or is affected by mental ill-health or substance misuse (Getting It Right For Young Carers in Fife 2018-21). The young carers range from 8 to 25 years old. Having a caring role has the potential to affect every aspect of a young person's life - emotionally, mentally, physically, and socially.

Volunteer befrienders enhance what Fife Young Carers offer by helping young people access social activities in their communities, build trusting relationships, and having fun along the way. The charity is dedicated to raising awareness of young carers support needs, as well as providing opportunity for them to have a break from their caring role and build confidence. This could be a walk along the beach, a visit to a local site or café, or a variety of fun activities. FYC provide person centred support through group and one-to-one meetings, young carer statements, and support young adult carers to move into adulthood.
