Falkland Palace and Garden welcomes over 44,000 visitors every year and there’s something here for everyone, from the Palace with a working Chapel Royal, apartments for kings and queens, stunning gardens, an orchard and the oldest tennis court in the country.
If you are passionate about heritage and education, why not get in touch and help to bring the 16th century alive for a range of visitors, school groups, adult learners and families. Under the guidance of the Learning Officer, you will help to deliver the school visits and workshops in the Palace and Garden, donning one of our fantastic costumes and sharing the stories of Falkland as you do so. If you would like to get involved, we would love to hear from you!
• Welcoming and leading learning groups around the Palace and Garden (in conjunction with school teachers and the Learning Officer)
• Learning about the history of the property, its previous inhabitants and its artefacts, and sharing that knowledge with others
• Using and maintaining educational resources and equipment, ensuring that they are returned to their proper storage place
• Helping to take due care for pupils’ and visitors’ welfare while on Trust premises
• Providing other educational assistance as may be reasonably requested by the Learning Officer and property staff
Generally, you’ll be working with a small team of other volunteers and Palace staff. We’ll provide an induction and training for you (about the Trust, its values and your role) to get started, and we’ll help you to keep learning while you’re volunteering with us. You’ll also have free access to all of the courses in our online e-learning system.
