    About this opportunity:We are looking for Volunteer Befrienders for people living with a diagnosis of dementia especially focusing on the North and East of Fife. We will endeavor to match befreienders with people living in their local areas to ensure ongoing connections and minimize travel for the volunteer.

    Volunteer Befrienders need to be able to give a minimum of 2 hours a week for a period of 6 months or more. they need to warm and engaging , flexible and able to respond to circumstances where change might happen suddenly and unexpectedly, enjoy being socially connected and getting out and about to cafes, groups and outdoors. They need to calm, confident, self-assured, discrete and trustworthy, aware of their own boundaries, creative and have a sense of humor.
    Full training and support will be give to the volunteer Befrienders the tools to carry out this role and ensure a mutually engaging relationship.

    Training provided:There is requirement to attend a 3 hour induction training course prior to taking up this role. Training will also be given in assisted handling. Ongoing opportunities for review and reflection will be built into a supportive structure with regular opportunities to review the role, the relationship and any challenges that are being experienced.

    Experience required:Flexible, creative, imaginative, naturally warm and engaging,trustworthy discrete, calm, self-assured, aware of their own boundaries, sense of humor, be prepared to cope with sudden and unexpected situations, enjoy social experiences and one to one relationships.
