DUE TO COVID-19 CURRENTY PAUSED BUT STILL OPERATING A WAITING LIST. Helping Matters is a new programme in Fife and as a practical and emotional support volunteer, you'll be doing something amazing for people at a difficult time. Volunteers will be helping someone affected by cancer who will identify the support most useful to them, which may change over time. Activities could include: Practical support such as helping with daily activities such as shopping, gardening and housework. Emotional support such as listening and talking, providing a supportive relationship to help reduce feelings of isolation, offer reassurance and increase confidence.
This role involves working unsupervised in the community. Support is available from local Macmillan staff and volunteers will receive an induction and training, plus access to our lone worker personal safety system.

Every volunteer undertakes core Macmillan volunteer training which covers the history of Macmillan, an understanding of the role and topics such as boundaries, confidentiality, dealing with difficult situations, communication skills and safeguarding.
Volunteers will have access to a free learning and development programme and an online learning platform.
Volunteers will be supported by a Lead Volunteer and Volunteer Services Coordinator and there are workshops, meetings and gatherings throughout the year.
Out of pocket expenses paid?
Yes - All out of pocket expenses agreed in advance in line with our guidelines will be reimbursed. Mileage paid at 45p per mile and bus tickets reimbursed.
The volunteer can choose to submit expenses weekly or monthly.
