Hearing Forces is a project supporting Older Veterans (65 years and older), their family and carers, through their hearing loss at all stages from the beginning right the way through their experience. Hearing Forces is part of Unforgotten Forces - a collaboration of 15 leading organisations in Scotland supporting older veterans and their families. Unforgotten Forces delivers a range of services such as advice, access to healthcare, respite care and helping to prevent isolation. Tasks will include:- Supporting service users in community venues, residential units and their homes. Undertake basic hearing aid support and maintenance. Undertake basic hearing screening with service users who have not yet had a diagnosis. Provide information on useful equipment to improve everyday life. Support service users before/after hearing aids have been fitted. Signpost and refer service users to internal Action on Hearing Loss services. Complete all relevant paperwork. Promote the work of Action on Hearing Loss and the Unforgotten Forces consortium. Meet with other Action on Hearing Loss volunteers.

Volunteer induction lasts a day with ongoing training from the charity itself and regular meetings with Volunteer manager to help understand how the volunteer is coping and where support is needed.
Out of pocket expenses paid?
Yes - There is an expense form which will be explained during induction on how to claim expenses on a weekly/monthly basis.
Knowledge of and willingness to learn about issues affecting deaf and hard of hearing people and the veteran's community.

Hearing Forces covers all of Fife which is one of the 32 local authorities in Scotland which the project covers. Action on Hearing Loss would ask if any volunteer would be able to cover Fife or parts of Fife.
This opportunity is compatible with the Saltire Awards for volunteers aged 12-25.
