There are many tasks within the horticulture team and members are welcome to be involved in as many or as few as they wish. The team meet in Sugar Acre which is a very quiet and beautiful space, with heated polytunnels. Design Team: We would welcome people who have an interest in planters and basket design and people who have experience in creating wildflower areas and food growing spaces. Growing & Nurturing Plants: Seeds, bulbs, cutting divisions and plugs; we grow them all and the company is usually good. This is for people who love plants or would like to learn about them. we also have raised beds for those with limited mobility. Maintenance: Watering, feeding, pruning, etc. We usually wander around the village in a small group in the early evening when it is quiet and have a chat while tending to the plants. It is a very pretty and friendly place to be.
no upper age limit has been specified
The volunteers will be introduced to other team members and be shown how equipment is used safely, where it is stored, first aid, etc. They will be given a list of planned meeting dates and communication details to keep updated to new projects and events they may choose to be involved in. They will be shown how to manage tasks, for e.g. potting on plants. Written instructions are also left in the polytunnel as a reminder as required in busy periods.
Any volunteer who requires this will be offered a named mentor to work alongside. The volunteer can choose the activities they are interested in and if training is required this will be planned with each volunteer and they will be offered 1:1 training.
All volunteers work within a small group and share the tasks. Volunteers are not left to work alone.
Out of pocket expenses paid?
Yes - Expenses are reimbursed at anytime provided a receipt is submitted. This is for agreed purchases only.
No experience is required as the volunteers will be working with other volunteers who can provide training and support as required. People who have a good knowledge of plants are very welcome but it is not essential that they do.
