Unpaid carers are often too busy caring to think about themselves. You can make a difference by befriending a carer to help them to take a little time for themselves. The opportunity involves meeting up with your matched Carer once a week for 2-3 hours. The aim is to help Carers feel less isolated, excluded or lonely by getting back out into the community and increasing their social circle so that they, ultimately, no longer need a befriender. Volunteers may accompany Carers to a local cafe, go on an outing with a local walking group, use the library or the many other community resources available. Some Carers may need support to build up to getting out and about; perhaps they need help to build their confidence or are just not sure what they want to do. Some Carers will just want to have someone to talk to.
