Fife Shopmobility are looking for a volunteer to assist 9am until 12pm for one or more days per week, on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The aim of Shopmobility is to lend, free of charge, manual and powered wheelchairs and scooters. Volunteers can assist Shopmobility in various aspects of the scheme, as determined by the Manager: - to accompany Shopmobility customers whilst they are shopping, either by pushing a wheelchair or by escorting someone who has a visual impairment - to assist the staff at the Shopmobility office in cleaning of the equipment and minor administration tasks including answering the phone - taking equipment to customers who arrive by car, taxi or bus - to issue mobility equipment to customers and complete administration processes if required to do so - to assist in the fund raising/promotion processes and activities - to carry out other tasks connected with Shopmobility as mutually agreed between the volunteer and the Manager.
On acceptance, all volunteers must attend an induction and training session to fully equip them for their role. This is an important, practical preparation for working with people with disabilities, staff and other volunteers.
Out of pocket expenses paid?
Yes - Bus fares are paid in cash on submission of receipt. Mileage rate is available at 32p per mile.
No particular skills and experience are required, however, an understanding of the difficulties experienced by people with disabilities would be helpful.
