Fife Boomerang is a mental health charity based in Glenrothes. They have their own mini bus which holds up to 13 people who are taken on various activities twice weekly. There is a choice of outings which could be anything from the cinema to a museum or an afternoon visit to maybe Pitlochry, Jedburgh, Edinburgh, Glasgow etc. We also fit in a few shows a year. They hope to reduce isolation, encourage socialisation and improve confidence in their members. Members are all independent and for outings and there is always a volunteer on the bus with the driver.
There is no requirement for volunteers to pay entry fees for these visits whilst they are volunteering. It would be great if drivers have a D1 on their drivers license if possible but not essential. A PVG check will also be required for this role.
If you have some spare time why not join us on our journey? Fife Boomerang is all about bouncing back to life!
Volunteers will be given an induction to the organisation.
The volunteer driver will be taken out on the bus to make sure they can drive it well and there will always be another volunteer with them.
Out of pocket expenses paid?
Yes - Public transport rates or mileage. This can be discussed with volunteers individually.
D1 license would be great but not essential.
Must have held driving license for at least 2years.
We would like our drivers to be able to interact with everyone, preferably with a sunny disposition.
Restrictions on who can volunteer
Insurance cover for drivers.
Informal Chat; PVG membership required
No, not for this opportunity.
The bus is to be picked up in pitteuchar. Drivers then have various pick up points in Fife which is normally a main bus stop and then travel on to their destination.
This opportunity is not suitable for Saltire Awards (for volunteers aged 12-25).
