NOTE: At present, because of the restrictions, we cannot invite anyone to an information event in the branch, so please visit our website www.Samaritans.org/volunteering which explains what is involved with volunteering with us.
Listening volunteers will be part of an organisation that listens to people in crisis, depressed or suicidal and helps them explore their feelings in the hope that, by doing this and supporting them, they will find a solution to their problem and thus feel they can carry on. It is a country-wide organisation which operates 24 hours, 7 days a week and 52 weeks a year. Full training is provided, Following the training, all new Samaritans have a mentor who supports them for as long as they need support. You will never be on duty alone and ongoing support and training is provided. There are also non-listening opportunities available such as fundraising, flling etc.
no upper age limit has been specified
The volunteer will be invited to an Information evening - selection evening - interview - six weeks training followed by working with a mentor
