    About this opportunity:Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) is a neurological condition caused by the premature loss of nerve cells in certain parts of the brain
     •  Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD) is a degenerative brain disease that affects people from the age of 40
     •  PSP and CBD are rare and little known
     •  Education volunteers can help PSPA improve this situation
     •  One of their aims is to make education and training available to as many health and social care professionals as possible, many of whom may have not come across PSP or CBD before
     •  The education volunteer roole will increase the understanding of professionals about PSP and CBD, and will therefore improve their practice
     •  The organisation also aims to have their volunteers raise awareness in local communities by offering informative talks to interested groups

    Training provided:Training and resources will be provided to enable you o plan and deliver free training sessions on PSP, CBD and the services offered by PSPA to health and social care professionals and local groups. PSPA offer a comprehensive learning package that can be completed in your own time and covers all aspects of the role. A face-to-face training session completes the process. There will also be ongoing support and opportunities for you to meet and get to know members of staff including other volunteers, and to increase your understanding of the wider work of PSPA.

    Yes - To be confirmed once the opportunities are arranged. PSPA is experienced in reimbursing volunteers promptly and appropriately.

    Experience required:You need to be enthusiastic, enjoy speaking to groups and be able to manage a group effectively. Ideally you will have an understanding of PSP & CBD, be passionate about raising awareness and have empathy with the aims of PSPA. Experience in public speaking and confidence in Powerpoint will help, as will being able to travel within your local area.

    Restrictions on who can volunteer
    ue to the sensitive nature of discussion and presenting all aspects of progressive illness, PSPA feels this role is unsuitable for people currently caring for loved ones with PSP/CBD, or the recently bereaved.

    Travel DetailsThe talks are set up on an ad hoc basis, a small number of times a year, and as close as possible to the volunteers' local area. A driving licence and access to a car are desirable.
