Two ‘Dementia Friendly’ walks have been unveiled at Riverside Park in Glenrothes thanks to funding from Paths for All, Fife Health and Social Care Partnership and Fife Council.

The routes, which are both less than a mile long, are equipped with bright yellow arrows to easily show the way and offer activity stops that are aimed at improving strength and balance.

Convener of the Glenrothes Area Committee Cllr Fiona Grant said: “Physical activity is essential to maintain good health and walking is an ideal way for people to get and stay active, particularly those who have dementia or a long term condition.

“As part of the Council’s Dementia Friendly award from Paths for All, the Bums off Seats team have trained their volunteer walk leaders to be Dementia Friendly so that people can join in the health walks knowing that the leaders understand their needs.

“People with dementia are at greater risk of having a fall but keeping active and trying out the strength and balance activities along the routes can help to reduce that risk. Riverside Park is ideally placed beside the town centre shops so people can easily enjoy it as part of their shopping or leisure time.”

Bums Off Seats led walks that use Riverside Park meet on Tuesdays at the Rothes Halls at 12.30pm.
