  • The Carnegie Trust: Undergraduate Tuition Fee Grants

    Created: 22/05/2025
    News/Events Category: Funding and Finance
    This item will show under the following categories: Children and Families

    The Carnegie Trust's Undergraduate Tuition Fee Grants are aimed at individuals from low income households who are ineligible for tuition fee support from the Scottish Government.

    The majority of the students they support attended university or college in the past but withdrew before completing their studies. Often this was the result of ill health, financial problems, or personal circumstances. Sometimes they just felt that their chosen course of study was not the right one for them. They also help a number of students who are seeking asylum in the UK.

    Who can apply?

    To be considered for this grant you must:

    • Live in a low income household (see section on income thresholds below);
    • Reside in Scotland at the time of applying and have completed at least two full years of secondary schooling or college education in Scotland, OR be able to demonstrate (to the Trust’s satisfaction) a substantial and recent connection to Scotland on the basis of residency, education (excluding university level education) or upbringing;
    • Be entitled to remain indefinitely in the UK; OR
      • have Limited Leave to Remain under a visa that is valid for the entire duration of the course; OR
      • be an asylum seeker;
    • Not be eligible for public funds (e.g. grants or loans) towards the cost of tuition fees, whether in Scotland, the UK or overseas;
    • Not have already graduated with a university degree (if you are seeking support for a second undergraduate degree please refer to the section on 2nd degrees below)

    How to apply

    All applications are made online. The application portal will be open from 01 June 2025.

    The closing date for applications is Monday 01 December 2025.
