    In July 2024 the United Nation Convention on the Rights of Children (UNCRC) was directly incorporated into domestic Scots law. This Act ensures that children’s rights are central to policy and decision-making, and that their needs are met by public service complaints procedures in Scotland.

    The Scottish Public Services Ombudsman was funded by the Scottish Government to develop a child-friendly way for public bodies to handle complaints. In line with their guidance, all local authorities were asked to support their colleagues in child-friendly complaints handling and upholding children's rights under UNCRC. As a result they have created the following:
