Social Security Scotland – Carers Allowance Supplement
Created: 02/12/2024Carer’s Allowance Supplement is an automatic payment to recognise the vital contribution made by unpaid carers in local communities across Scotland.
It is paid twice a year to people who were paid Carer Support Payment from Social Security Scotland or Carer’s Allowance from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) on two qualifying dates earlier in the year.
The second annual Carer’s Allowance Supplement payment of £288.60 will be made on Friday 06 December 2024. It will be awarded to people who were eligible on the qualifying date of 07 October. The first payment of £288.60 was made on 07 June 2024.
Social Security Scotland will write to eligible carers in advance, so they know when to expect the payment. If carers have not received the payment or heard from us by 16 December 2024, they should call free on 0800 182 2222.
Some carers who receive Carer's Allowance from the DWP, or Carer Support Payment from Social Security Scotland, do not receive Carer’s Allowance Supplement because they receive other benefits at the same rate or higher instead. This is sometimes called an 'underlying entitlement'.
