    The Independent Human Rights Fund for Scotland is for organisations taking action to realise and defend rights, and tackling immediate rights issues affecting people’s daily lives.

    The Fund is independent of government and is open to non-statutory organisations working in Scotland. It is supported by a group of funders that currently includes: AB Charitable Trust, Binks Trust, Cattanach, Corra Foundation, The Baring Foundation, The Robertson Trust and William Grant Foundation.The Fund is hosted by Corra Foundation.

    Funding sizes

    The Independent Human Rights Fund for Scotland will provide grants of up to £150,000 to third sector organisations whose work is explicitly focussed on human rights.

    There is no limit on annual income to apply, but organisations with an income of under £25,000 or over £250,000 per year need to apply in partnership with other organisations - please see the Criteria document for specific eligibility requirements.

    There is just over £900,000 available to distribute, and they anticipate making six to 10 grants.

    You can apply for: 

    • Grants from £10,000 to £150,000
    • Grants for between one and three years, expected to start from 15 December 2024 and finish by 14 December 2027
    • Core costs or project costs

    Who can apply?

    To be eligible to apply, organisations must: 

    • Be a registered third sector organisation
    • Be able to evidence human rights focus in their founding documents or most recent audited accounts
    • Be able to evidence a track record of human rights-focussed work over the last three years
    • Have an income between £25,000 and £250,000 per year to apply independently; and, if their income is lower or higher than this, be applying in partnership with other organisations

    Third sector organisations that do not meet these requirements can be part of collaborative applications as partners (but not lead partners)
