It is too late to book a place for this particular session, sorry about that.

The 'Introduction to Deafblind Awareness' free training course is co-facilitated by a project officer and a deafblind individual, giving the participants the lived experience of deafblindness.

The training session will typically last for a maximum of two hours, although they are flexible and can make special accommodations if necessary. Their approach encourages interactivity, where they engage with each participant by posing questions such as 'What is your understanding of deafblindness?' and 'How would you communicate effectively with a deafblind person?'. It's common for participants not to have immediate answers to these questions, prompting us to provide explanations.

The key topics they cover include:

    1. Lived experience of a deafblind individual
    2. Communication requirements and preferences
    3. Examples illustrating visual and hearing loss
    4. Techniques for guiding a deafblind individual

A course certificate and Deafblind Awareness Toolkit are provided to each participant when the relevant paperwork is returned. This will allow participants to participate in Deafblind Scotland's free follow up course Deafblind Awareness Champion.

To book or you have any enquiries please contact Alison Wilkie via e-mail [email protected]

The course also runs on Thursday 09 November.
