Exhibition: What Were You Wearing?
Created: 18/04/2023, Updated: 19/04/2023Fife Violence Against Women Partnership is running an exhibition called What Weere You Wearing? at Fife College's Levenmouth Campus on 25 and 26 April.
This exhibition displays types of clothing that were worn by survivors when they were sexually assaulted or abused, with testimonies gathered by the University of Arkansas featured alongside the types of clothes they wore at the time. The clothing featured is not the actual clothing worn at the time of the assault but the kind of item (e.g. a pair of jeans and a t-shirt). The exhibit was inspired by a poem by Dr. Mary Simmerling, titled "What I Was Wearing?". Jen Brockman and Dr. Mary Wyandt-Hiebert created the exhibit, which was first shown at the University of Arkansas in 2014, subsequently touring the globe.
Fife Violence Against Women Partnership brings together groups including the NHS, Police Scotland, education services, social work services, housing services, and the voluntary sector. This exhibition is specifically supported by Fife Rape and Sexual Assault Centre (FRASAC) and Fife College.
This exhibition is open to students and the local community to encourage discussion of the damaging impact of victim blaming and how we aim to dismantle rape culture. There will be a safe space available for the entirety of the exhibition, supported by a member of Fife Rape and Sexual Assault Centre. You are welcome to leave the exhibition at any time.
