"Lone Parent Positive" - Fife Gingerbread campaign to change employer recruitment practices
Created: 03/02/2023Fife Gingerbread has researched the effect of typical recruitment practices on those struggling to find work, and is now promoting a “Lone Parent Positive” culture to help disadvantaged parents into the workplace.
Lyndsey Thomson, Project Co-ordinator at Fife Gingerbread would like employers across Fife to know more about how changing recruitment practices can remove barriers for those who could be valuable employees, and has the following question and suggestions for Fife’s workplaces:
“It’s a New Year and a great time to think about your recruitment processes. Can you implement a ‘lone parent positive’ culture within your workplace and support one of the six priority family types identified as being at a higher risk of poverty? Small changes can make a big difference – by simplifying your recruitment processes, offering term time roles, offering working hours within the school day, or simply a guaranteed interview scheme, you can encourage and empower lone parents into part-time, flexible, and sustainable employment whilst also helping to address child poverty in your community.”
