Case transfers from DWP to Social Security Scotland
Created: 27/09/2022, Updated: 28/09/2022In June 2022, Social Security Scotland began the process of transferring client awards from the DWP to Social Security Scotland for payment of the new Scottish disability benefits.
From Monday 29 August, case transfer expanded to all Local Authorities when Adult Disability Payment was rolled out nationally. Social Security Scotland aim to finish transferring all awards by the end of 2025, welcoming more than 300,000 people that currently receive Personal Independence Payment or Disability Living Allowance to the Scottish social security system.
It will take approximately three months to transfer someone’s award; and Social Security Scotland will write to people to inform them when to expect their payments and other important information, including how to ensure they continue to receive any other benefits.
Awards will be transferred automatically, meaning no-one will have to reapply for disability benefits.
People will receive the same amount of Adult Disability Payment that they received for Personal Independence Payment or Disability Living Allowance.
If the award was transferred because the Personal Independence Payment or Disability Living Allowance award was due to be reviewed or because the person reported a change, Social Security Scotland will review the Adult Disability Payment award soon after the client’s transfer is completed.
