The Living Wage Foundation has announced a 10.1% increase in the real Living Wage.

The rate rises to £10,90 per hour across the UK, a rise of £1.00 since last year. This is the single largest annual increase in the rate since its inception, and a rise that was brought forward from December. Both these facts reflect the substantial additional pressure felt across the country with the cost of living rising sharply this year. The increase amounts to a total annual increase of almost £2,000 (assuming a 37.5 hour week).

The real Living Wage is distinct from the UK Government's National Living Wage, and is based on an independent calculation of the actual minimum cost of a basic living. The difference between the two rates is now £2,730 per annum.

Over 390,000 workers at over 11,000 Living Wage Employers - including at Fife Voluntary Action- will benefit from this increase.
