Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs is looking for a Family Support Development Officer to join its team. This post will develop, deliver, support and promote a range of family support and engagement for family members who are affected by someone else's substance use. The post will operate in partnership with NHS Fife Addictions Service, partner organisations, families and communities. The post has an area-wide remit, including working across three NHS Addictions bases in Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy and Windygates, along with some home working. This post is part of an expansion of the existing Fife Family Support Service, working alongside an existing Family Support Development Officer and a new Family Support Assistant post.
The post-holder will be responsible for delivering initial assessments and one-to-one intensive support for family members aged 16+ years (including face to face, telephone and online support); offering advocacy and self-advocacy support to ensure families can access their rights; supporting the development of family inclusive practice across NHS Fife Addictions Services; using and promoting evidence-based interventions; and evaluating and demonstrating the impact of these and of this collaborative family support and engagement model. The post-holder will be expected to work some evenings and occasional weekends. Due to the nature of this post, access to a car is essential. This post will be part of Scottish Families' staff team and be supervised by the Senior Family Support Development Officer.
The team is seeking applicants who have a degree in a relevant subject or equivalent professional qualification, along with experience of direct client work, group work and direct work with families. Applicants should have knowledge of issues for families affected by substance use and values underpinning advocacy. The team is additionally seeking an applicant who can encourage and promote the development of family support groups, and effectively and sensitively advocate for others.
