    Hours: 12 hours p/w x 28 weeks, Market Garden Sessions will be Thursdays, although not all hours will fall on this day

    Salary: £12 p/h

    Location: Greenheart Growers Site, Kinghorn Loch, KY3 9YG

    Start date: 21 April

    Greenheart Growers is a Community Interest Company / Market Garden, based in Kinghorn, Fife.

    The organisation is looking to recruit a Market Garden Session Support worker to assist with its Market Garden Sessions.

    In this job role, you will work with volunteers from the local area and provide the knowledge, skills and experience to help them grow their own produce and work towards developing their own Organic Food Growing Project.

    You will ensure a safe, constructive and welcoming learning environment, where volunteers will learn via hands-on practical experience, combined with learning materials to provide key learning points.

    You will Lead sessions at the organisation's growing site, Prepare learning points, Deliver sessions and Reflect on the success of each session, with the development of Volunteers at the heart of every stage of preparation, delivery and evaluation.

    Specific Tasks Related to this position:

    • Preparing Sessions, specifying key learning points, tasks for that session volunteers will engage in, preparing materials as and when appropriate e.g handouts.
    • Ensuring all paperwork is completed and policies and procedures adhered to prior to session beginning and throughout all sessions.
    • Engaging Volunteers in opportunities for practical hands-on experience in the Market Garden, with particular attention to the needs/capabilities of each individual/volunteer/community member.
    • To communicate with volunteers and develop an awareness of where they wish to develop, using Feedback Sessions and Feedbakc forms to gather this data.
    • Ensuring the safety of all volunteers during the session, though completing necessary checks and procedures relating to the structure of session and safety.
    • Liaise with Greenheart Growers Directors and provide monthly reports (including sessions reports for every session) with full commitment to cooperate with Greenheart Directors, other staff members and volunteers to overcome any obstacles

    You will be a core member in ensuring the Market Garden Sessions will achieve the following outcomes:

    • Improve Health and Wellbeing / Reduce Social Isolation.
    • Increase access to organic produce.
    • Increase opportunity for Volunteering and Community Activities.
    • Increase Access to education and training and employability prospects.
    • Contribution to viable local food economy and expanded networks of local food growers.
    • Increase community resilience.

    Desired Qualities/Experience:

    The organisation is looking for an experienced Market Gardener with minimum 2- 3 years experience working in a Market Garden, experienced in leading sessions and working with volunteers towards established outcomes.

    The candidate should have the following qualities;

    • Able to prepare Learning points in advance of sessions.
    • Able to process essential paperwork to ensure we meet all our policies and procedures with every session and comply with expectations of funders.
    • Excellent people / social skills, to create a welcoming, fun but constructive learning environment
    • Candidate will also be able to represent Greenheart Growers in a professional manner when engaging with local education bodies (schools and nurseries) and neighbouring Growing Projects.
    • Candidate will have very good – excellent leadership skills, able to ensure positive outcomes each session working with a large group of people and able to give clear instruction to staff and volunteers at all times.
