Seven in ten unpaid carers face day services that are reduced or closed due to COVID-19 and staffing shortages, a survey by a Carers Scotland has found.

Of the more than 8,000 surveyed unpaid carers, close to 70% are worried critical support they need to care for their loved ones will be further reduced.

More than half are concerned funding cuts will mean they lose access to support from charities and voluntary groups.

The findings echo those of the Fraser of Allander Institute, whose recent survey of unpaid carers supporting people with learning difficulties revealed not one had seen their support return to pre-pandemic levels.

The report found many formal support facilities, such as day centres, have still not re-opened and those that have face increased pressure and risk of permanent closure.
