Amy's volunteering journey
Created: 19/08/2021Every so often, we plan to share one of the many fantastic stories about some of the volunteers that our FVA team has supported.
This week, we want to shine a spotlight on Amy's volunteering journey:
"I've really benefitted from the aid and support of FVA during lockdown."
"Volunteering has allowed me to develop my own skills and confidence while maintaining a connection with the community. It has given me a real sense of purpose and a drive to keep moving forward despite the restrictions." - Amy
Amy, a recent graduate, was looking for a way to fill her time productively, remain active in the community whilst learning and developing new skills.
She met with FVA Volunteering Development Officer, Nicole, over a ‘socially distanced’ coffee and started to explore different opportunities.
Amy was looking for a combination of retail experience and heritage/museum-based work. She started volunteering with Oxfam and the Preservation Trust, both of which she has thoroughly enjoyed and learned a lot.
This experience has allowed Amy to develop her interests and pursue this area for further study. It has enabled her to make contacts in relevant fields which should be a big help when applying for further study or related jobs.
