The sun shone, the crowds came, and luckily the rain stayed off for the official opening of the West Braes Project's Pittenweem Outdoor Community Pool on Saturday 07 August.

Local volunteers and residents were integral to the development of the project and it is hoped that the pool will help rejuvenate the West Braes area and benefit the health of the community. Residents have already got stuck in and are enjoying the pool whilst the summer holidays continue. If you plan to visit the pool soon, please stay safe, and why not watch these YouTube videos from the Royal National Lifeboat Association which focus on what to do if you experience cold water shock and how to swim in cold water safely.

FVA has supported this project for quite a number of years (since 2015), where the idea of an outdoor pool in the area came from a local resident.  We assisted with appropriate governance, how to consult with the community to gather evidence and support, policy development, and provided information about funding opportunities.

We were also present at the opening of the pool, alongside project volunteers, representatives from major funders Fife Environment Trust, LEADER funding in Fife and Fife Council, letting off eco-friendly confetti cannons.
