    Post: Community Gardening and Environmental Improvement Assistant. Two posts under community Jobs Scotland for young people 16-29.

    Hours: 25 hours per week (normally 4 days of which Tuesdays - Thursdays are fixed with some additional hours)

    Salary: National minimum wage

    Location: One employee based primarily at Buckhaven and one at Methil

    Contract: 6 month contract

    CLEAR Hub is looking to recruit two part-time Community Gardening & Environmental Improvement Assistants. The role of the Assistants will be to assist the Sites and Volunteer Supervisor at each location (Buckhaven and Methil) and operating mainly at the community gardens.

    Tasks include: helping to manage and develop the community gardens (propagating plants from seed, harvesting, weeding, etc), helping with events and volunteer groups. However over the autumn-winter season, there will be a range of environmental improvements works in the neighbouring community to be carried out (tree/bulb planting, litterpicking, etc). Successful candidates will also spend some hours per week working at the Community Workshop food unit in Buckhaven (eg assisting with juice/fruit processing, involved in simple wood or craft work (eg bird/bat boxes|) and in keeping the sites organized, and clean.

    An interest in gardening, outdoors, environmental action is vital and willingness to work outdoors in all conditions is necessary. Suitable guidance and supervision is offered. This is a great opportunity for a young person to gain a range of practical experience in outdoor work while being paid the national minimum wage for 25 hours per week. Candidates should be well-motivated, show good timekeeping, an ability to work respectfully with a range of different individuals. Candidates must be between 16-29 and welcomes those disadvantaged in the labour market.

    This vacancy is only available through Community Jobs Scotland. Applicants must be aged 16 to 29 years and meet specific eligibility criteria.  Application can only be made via your local Jobcentre Plus or Skills Development Scotland work coach.  It is expected the closing date for applications will be 01 September 2021.
