About this course - Understanding Autism as a Developmental Difference

This course aims to further develop participants' understanding of autism as a developmental difference. It will deepen understanding of typical and atypical development and explore what is meant by a spiky/uneven developmental profile in autism. The course will also explore the brain and emotional development and how we and others may respond to stress, in particular how autistic people may respond to this. We will also look at how our understanding of a person’s developmental profile will inform our practice moving forwards.

This course is accredited by the CPD Certification Service.

    Course objectives are:

    • To explore what we mean by human development
    • Explore how the brain processes information and its emotional development
    • How does our knowledge of human development impact our practice?

Each course requires around 6 hours to complete, delivered via an online learning platform and includes:

    • 3 x 30 minute self-directed learning sessions via recorded presentations
    • 3 x 30 minute reflective learning activities
